Morrison Construction, in conjunction with Scottish Water, selected the Funke SN16 HS® Pipe System for a very tricky sewer diversion project at the Old Course at St Andrews, one of the most famous golf courses in the world.
The existing combined sewer ran under the first and eighteenth holes of the Old Course, and also under the practice putting green, before teeing into the network at the R&A Museum. Apart from the location, the sewer had the added challenge of being at a depth of 6 metres.
Morrison Construction consulted with stakeholders including the R&A, St Andrews Links Trust, Scottish Water and the local council, and undertook CCTV surveys to determine the lifespan of the existing asset, prior to producing an in-depth detailed design for the diversion works.
Morrison Construction specified 400mm Funke SN16 HS® Pipe as this is a preferred material due to its unbeatable technical properties and proven track record in scenarios where it would be problematic to have to return to after completion. This particular specification of pipe is high strength, has a high safety factor and Morrison’s site teams find it extremely easy to install.
To enhance safety on site, Morrison’s larger excavators were fitted with Safety Shield, an AI package that recognises the human form and alerts the operator to prevent an incident.
