Leading Suffolk-based groundworks contractor, DAB Civil Engineering Ltd, have been absolutely delighted with their first experience of installing Funke HS® Pipe on their site for Bennett Homes at Old Costessy near Norwich.
Located close to Norwich in the desirable village of Old Costessey, Bennett Homes’ development of 62 properties includes four bungalows, three and four bedroom houses and an executive-style five bedroom family home.
DAB Civil Engineering were awarded the contract to install the adoptable drainage system at the site as part of their groundworks package for the full 128 home development. Although the tight access and low-lying nature of the site were contributory factors, the main reason DAB selected the Funke HS® Pipe system in preference to vitrified clay as specified on the drawings was the health and safety benefits of HS® Pipe over vitrified clay due to its lower weight and ease of handling.
The project was supplied by MJ Abbott’s merchant, Longwater Construction Supplies Ltd of Norwich, Norfolk.
Shaun Catterall, DAB Civil Engineering’s Site Manager, commented: “The very first thing that strikes you on site is the way the components arrive. The packaging is of a high standard to protect the product. Then on first inspection of the pipes etc., you immediately see the quality of the manufacturing. Top class.
“Getting down to the nitty gritty, the crew I have on site are all very impressed, not only with the strength and durability, but also how easy the product is to handle and put together. The weight (or lack of) is a huge plus for the men installing the pipe work.
“I’m impressed also with the rigidity of the smaller diameter pipes. Some pipe work tends to flex making pipe laser installation difficult at times. There is no flex in these pipes making it very easy to use with the lasers.
“All in all it’s true to say I’m very impressed with not only the quality but also the user friendliness of this system.”
DAB Civil Engineering are now looking to use the Funke HS® Pipe system on further projects they have in the pipeline.
