Lewis Civil Engineering recommends HS Pipe for Dwr Cymru sewer replacement in North Wales

The Funke SN12 HS® Pipe System was preferred over traditional products for a Dwr Cymru (Welsh Water) site at Neston in North Wales. The Main Contractor, Lewis Civil Engineering Ltd, had put forward HS® Pipe after numerous successes on previous projects. With the product being easier to handle, due to being lightweight yet still SN12 in strength, it was the perfect solution for a very tricky site, causing the least disruption possible.

The HS® Pipe System increased productivity on site due the nature of the product. There was less fatigue due to the lightweight material and it was easily cut on site to fit around
existing utilities.

There were zero breakages or cracks in the product removing any down time waiting for replacement products. The pipe is smooth wall and so it was easy to core out lateral connections and fit a water tight junction using the CONNEX® Junction.

Due to the high ring stiffness of the pipe, levelling was made much easier as the pipe did not deform at any point – during storage, installation or backfilling. The HS® Pipes were supplied to site shrink-wrapped to protect them from damage right up to the point of installation.

The project was supplied by MJ Abbott’s merchant, Advanced Building Composites Ltd of Telford, Shropshire.

John Gregson, Site Manager for Lewis Civil Engineering, commented: “Funke HS Pipe is the ideal solution for our sites. It is so much easier and safer to use than traditional concrete or clay. We have the benefits of plastic pipe combined with the structural strength of these traditional materials.”
